Manual Transmission

Also known as a stick shift, manual transmissions aren’t quite as prevalent as they once were. Generally reserved more for sporty vehicles, manual transmissions allow for more control over a vehicle while also providing superior fuel efficiency. However, they are much more difficult to learn and operate than other transmission options.

Automatic Transmission

Automatic transmissions are much, much easier to manage than a manual transmission, as you don’t have to worry about the clutch pedal or changing gears manually. On top of the easier learning curve, shifting in an automotive transmission generally feels a bit smoother than with a manual transmission, which is generally a bonus.

Continuously Variable Transmission

Due to being built out of fewer parts, CVTs are less expensive to manufacture, and therefore generally lead to a smaller cost for you when purchasing the vehicle. It also enhances fuel efficiency even more so than manual transmissions in most cases, and deliver the smoothest transitions of all. However, they generally provide a more boring riding experience and are often slower pace.
