No matter what type of vehicle you drive, it’s important to always take care of all the moving parts. And nothing on your vehicle moves more often than your wheels. But your wheels aren’t what’s touching the ground, your tires are. So, if you’re looking to get the most out of your tires, then we’ve got a few tips for how to make them last longer.
Check Tire Pressure
One of the easiest ways to make sure you’re getting the most out of your tires is to check your tire pressure often to make sure it’s within an acceptable range. You should be checking it at least once a month, and perhaps more often when the weather is extremely cold or hot.
Rotate Tires
Approximately every 5,000 miles, or four times a year, you should get your tires rotated. Leaving them where they’re at without rotation will wear them down unevenly, thus wearing them out much faster.
Balance Tires
You should also be balancing your tires about as often as rotating them, just about every other oil change. Having your tires balanced can prevent uneven wear and tear as well.
Check Alignment
Twice a year you should also have your alignment checked to prevent your wheels from becoming toed-in or toed-out, which once again can create uneven wear and tear.
Avoid Road Hazards
Without a doubt, the easiest way to make your tires last longer is to simply avoid road hazards as best as possible. That means potholes, debris, uneven roads, even roadkill. If you can avoid all of these, your tires will have a much better chance at lasting longer.
