Gil’s Auto Sales gives back with STEM center donation

Dyer Family STEM Center

Gil’s Auto Sales has been proud to serve the communities which have been so welcoming to us, and we want to return the favor. What better way for an auto dealer to give back than by promoting the education of the bright minds of our future? Those innovative youngsters may be the next great car designers and engineers, among a plethora of other career options. They may even be the ones to finally find a cure for the common cold! It is with the learning experience of our current and future generations of students in mind that the family of our own Gil Dyer and family has donated $150,000 to what will be known as the Dyer Family STEM Center.

New STEM center in Phenix City AL

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. STEM centers are designed to provide an in-depth and experiential education in those areas of study, which are all important in the continuing development of our world. You wouldn’t have the computer or smartphone you’re using to read this without them! With the Dyer Family STEM Center in Phenix City scheduled to open August 2016, kids in the area will have an opportunity to learn using some of today’s best tools and equipment. The center will be divided into eight labs, each with its own purpose.

The CB&T of East Alabama and Synovus Engineering Lab will be entirely web-based and allow for design and simulation.

The Aflac Digital Media Lab will give students a chance to use all forms of media, including audio and video, for mass communication.

The Phenix City Education Foundation Chattahoochee River System Lab will use an aquarium and terrarium setting for learning about ecology.

The Phenix City Education Foundation Saltwater Aquarium promises to teach students about undersea life.

The TSYS Coding Lab will give students a chance to create recordings.

The WestRock Virtual Science Lab will give students a chance to perform hundreds of different kinds of dissections.

The Dr. Stephen Cooper Imaginarium will include NASA, Smithsonian, and NOAA exhibits.

The Cable TV of East Alabama Interactive Atrium will display exhibits about anatomy, health, and weather.

The groundbreaking ceremony, in which the Dyer family took part, was a landmark in the long development of bringing such an exciting project to the community. Gil’s Auto Sales is eager to see the construction of this educational tool, which promises to be a valuable resource for students for many years to come.
